The 1800 ft. Stomp, #LCBOgoLocal

Share

In the skys over Toronto, what is that? A bird? A plane? No, it was celebrities stomping grapes at the top of the CN Tower. The recent launch of the LCBO Go Local campaign took place just above the observation deck of the icon on the Toronto Waterfront. A well attended event by local media, the LCBO brought out some great local wineries, and Toronto celebs, comedian Colin Mocharie and his partner in stomping, actress  Debra McGrath, competing against HGTV design personalities Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan.

Some great local wines were represented, as flashes went off and video was recorded to document the stomping of Baco grapes, generously donated by Henry of Pelham. Ed Madronich, chair of Wine Country Ontario egged them on, and introduced us to the afternoons experience, not forgetting to thank all of those at the LCBO for their support.

The wine was a great example of "what Ontario does best", as Ed put it; and I couldn't agree more with some examples of Rose, Riesling, Chardonnay, Baco Noir, and a red and white blend. It was a real treat to see John from Sandbanks there with their just released 2009 Baco Noir (in LCBO in the coming week or so, now winery only), and at $14.95 this wine is a real deal. Also, there was another favourite the Cave Spring Cellars Riesling, also $14.95 at the LCBO. As well, there was the red blend produced for televisions Steven and Chris, for which I recently attended the launch. Their wine is produced by Reif Estates, and is a great introductory wine for those being introduced to the wonders of Ontario wine. All in all some really decent wines.

I want to thank the LCBO for the opportunity to attend the launch, and applaud their efforts. The local wine industry should always be front and centre, but we have to recognize the efforts of dedicating the month ahead to the great wine that we produce here in Ontario. Go out, buy some Ontario wine, and be proud of what we are doing in this province. On twitter be sure to use the hashtags #LCBOgoLocal and #30dayslocal to help us all promote the good that is Ontario wine.
